How to Compare Wool Fabric Prices and Supplier Quotes

Compare wool fabric prices only after the quoted fabrics and commercial terms are comparable. Check the price unit, usable width, exact specification and included costs first. A lower price per metre can describe a different material or a narrower usable fabric.

Identify what each quote actually covers

Give every proposal a reference that links the quotation to its sample and specification. Record fibre composition, construction, declared weight with its unit, usable width, finish and colour basis. Mark unresolved fields clearly instead of filling them from a similar fabric photograph or collection name.

Ask whether the price covers the reviewed sample article, a proposed alternative or a development starting point. A quote for a broad tweed direction is not automatically a quote for the sample in your hand. Keep changes in the material visible alongside changes in price.

Normalize units without hiding assumptions

Check whether the price is per metre, yard, kilogram or another stated unit. Ask for the declared basis before converting a weight-based quote. GSM and grams per linear metre are different units; the conversion requires the width used in the weight declaration. That width may differ from the usable cutting width.

For a metre-based quote, dividing price per linear metre by confirmed usable width in metres gives a price per usable square metre. This is a comparison aid, not the garment cost. Pattern matching, one-way cutting, defects, garment size and the actual cutting layout can change material consumption.

Separate product cost from the commercial basis

Compare quotes in the same currency and note the quotation date and validity. Record the delivery term, named delivery point, taxes where applicable and which transport or handling charges are included. Ask the supplier to clarify any undefined term. Avoid comparing a delivered total with a factory-level price as if the included services were identical.

List sample fees, courier charges, development charges and bulk fabric cost separately. Confirm payment terms, quantity basis and colour scope with the supplier. A sample quote does not establish the bulk price, and a headline bulk price does not automatically include your sample shipment.

Ask for the reason behind a difference

When two proposals differ, ask which specification, finish, quantity or service explains the change. Compare the physical references with the garment maker and identify the trade-off you can accept. Do not assume a higher wool percentage or a higher price guarantees a required performance result.

If the article is revised, request a revised quotation linked to the new specification. Keep the earlier quote as a version, rather than replacing its fabric identity while retaining its price. This makes it possible to understand what was actually approved.

Make an approval-ready comparison sheet

Use one row per proposal and separate confirmed information from questions. Identify the selected option and explain why its material and terms fit the garment brief. Record who needs to approve the sample, specification and commercial conditions before ordering.

For a Fred Textile enquiry, send the selected visual reference, target garment, quantity and colour plan, specification targets and expected sample stage. Ask for the relevant price unit and inclusions. Current quotations and order terms are confirmed directly by Fred; this guide is not a public price list.

Questions buyers ask

Is price per metre enough to compare wool fabrics?

No. Check material identity, usable width, specification and included costs before comparing the price.

Can I compare a kilogram price with a metre price?

Only when the declared weight basis and relevant width are confirmed. Do not infer the conversion from a product photograph.

Does this website publish fixed wool fabric prices?

No. Fred Textile confirms quotations for the proposed article, quantity, colour plan and commercial basis.
